Sustainable wage policies – e-learning course for Ethiopia

Well-designed and effective wage policies can help to ensure “a minimum wage to all employed and in need of such protection”, while having the potential for positive effects on labour productivity – both at the enterprise level and at the aggregate economy-wide level. In this course, participants learn how to design minimum wages, collective bargaining, equal pay to ensure adequate and effective protection at work for all, and a fair distribution of productivity growth. OJECTIVES Upon participation, participants are expected to: • Connect with a global network of professionals involved in the formulation, implementation, and analysis of wage policies • Create effective wage policies • Strengthen existing wage policies • Implement provisions that address the gender pay gap • Use a participatory approach to formulate better wage policies for more people • Help participants better understand the importance of statutory and negotiated minimum wages in creating decent work for all. CONTENT • Module 1: Minimum wage systems, international standards and country experiences • Module 2: Setting and regularly adjusting minimum wages: an evidence based approach • Module 3: Collective bargaining and wage setting • Module 4 : Tackling wage inequalities between men and women • Module 5 (optional module): well-designed wage data collection for the monitoring of wages
