The International Labour Organisation (ILO) fully endorses the support for and integration of apprenticeships into decent work creation processes in all of its member countries since it has recognized that importance of Quality Apprenticeships, which offer a tried and tested way of enabling young people to make the transition from the world of education to the world of work.
To ensure the implementation of a Quality Apprenticeship System in The Gambia, the International Training Centre of the ILO has designed and delivered a four-day Training Programme on Quality Apprenticeships during the period 6 March to 9 March 2023 in Banjul, The Gambia.
OBJECTIVES
The four days training on the national implementation of a Quality Apprenticeship System in The Gambia has been based on the principles of the ILO Quality Apprenticeship model and the model’s six key building blocks.
Training delivery has provided space for exchanges on progress and challenges on the implementation of a Quality Apprenticeship System in the Gambia and allowed for the development of a “gap closure” plan at the end of the four-day training programme. The programme has also allowed for knowledge sharing on apprenticeship development in other countries as well as emerging research on apprenticeships.
