Global Workers’ Academy on Sustainable Development

Digital Global Workers’ Academy on Sustainable Development was designed to support trade unions’ active engagement in SDG processes and a proactive involvement in the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Frameworks. The Academy consisted of five weeks of training organized in five modules. It combined synchronous training in ten live webinars with asynchronous learning through a series of self-guided e-learning modules, videos, info-stories, reading and written assignments and forum discussions on the e-campus. OBJECTIVES Upon successful completion of the Academy, the participants were able to - Understand theoretical frameworks and practical issues linked to sustainable development - Familiarize themselves with the content and processes related to the national UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) and identify entry points for trade union involvement - Integrate trade union SDG priorities in national assessment and situation report such as the Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs) in line with national development plans - Engage with UN resident coordinator - Prepare well informed trade union position papers on sustainable development as tools for advocacy with government and international development institutions at national level CONTENT The Academy offered ten live webinars on the following topics: - Introduction to Sustainable Development - The 2030 Agenda: Building a Greener, Safer and Better Future - Trade Unions' Engagement in UN Processes - Progress in the Implementation of SDG 8 - Boosting Trade Union Action for Climate Justice - Promoting Labour Rights for Fair Economies and Societies - Ways to Improve Social Protection Systems Using the SDGs - Youth Action for SDGs - Achieving Women’s Equal Leadership and Economic Inclusion - Solidarity and Dialogue for Peace and Social Justice The webinars were complemented by self-guided e-learning modules on: i) Key elements of the UN reforms and the decent work agenda, ii) Trade union’s integration of Decent Work Priorities into Cooperation Frameworks; iii) Frameworks for effective trade union responses to the COVID-19 crisis and iv) Guidelines for a just transition towards environmentally sustainable economies and societies for all. REQUIREMENTS The Certificate of Participation hereby attests that the participant took part in the Digital Global Workers’ Academy on Sustainable Development: How to Accelerate Agenda 2030 during the Decade of Action.
