LABOUR MIGRATION MANAGEMENT IN SOUTHERN AFRICA

This self-guided course mirrors the training activities developed by the Labour Migration cluster of ITCILO in collaboration with SAMM. OBJECTIVES The objectives of the course were the following: • Appreciate the challenges and opportunities related to the good governance of labour migration through the seven ILO thematic areas; • deepen their knowledge of a Decent Work approach to labour migration governance and the protection of migrant workers; • appreciate the existing mechanisms and instruments to better protect migrant workers’ human rights, including labour rights; • understand how to develop at national, regional and international level a genuine governance and management of labour migration through migration/development linkages and rights-based approaches; • better understand what support the ILO and the SAMM project can provide regarding Labour Migration; • recognize the pivotal role of social dialogue and key world-of-work actors (representatives of employers’ and workers’ organizations) in the development of labour migration policy, and in resolving critical issues relating to labour migration. CONTENT The participant has successfully completed at least one of the following training modules: • Labour migration governance in the SADC region • Developing Southern African NSO’s capacity to collect and analyse LM data • Piloting of the SADC Guidelines portability of social security benefits • Promoting a positive image of migrants and recognizing their contribution to development in the SADC region NUMBER OF HOURS: 15
