Just transition training programme Indonesia

As part of the technical assistance to enhance the capacity of relevant stakeholders in Indonesia, the International Labour Organization, with the support of its International Training Centre (ITCILO), provided a dedicated training programme to Government, workers’, and employers’ representatives and other stakeholders on the just transition in Indonesia. The training programme consisted of a 3-days face-to-face training programme in Yogyakarta. OBJECTIVES The following topics were at the centre of discussion during the capacity-building programme: • Why climate policies matter for social justice • The employment impacts of climate policies • The just transition: 9 building blocks for an economically and socially just future • The role of social dialogue and partnerships in shaping a just transition • Economic transition in coal regions • Gender equality and the role of youth in shaping the just transition • The role of the private sector in shaping a just transition • Investing in a just transition CONTENT The training programme was based on the ILO Guidelines for a just transition towards environmentally sustainable economies and societies for all. Participants gained a better understanding on how to reflect aspects around labour market impacts and social justice in green economic transformation, with due emphasis on the energy transition and its impact on coal regions. The content of the training programme evolved around the interlinkages of climate policies with macroeconomic and growth policies, labour market policies, industrial and economic diversification policies, enterprise and skills development policies, rights and social protection. ACHIEVEMENT Participants gained a better understanding on how to reflect aspects around labour market impacts and social justice in green economic transformation, with due emphasis on the energy transition and its impact on coal regions.
