This course supported selected Kenya-based, youth-led organizations in identifying and selecting e-Learning methods and tools for the design and delivery of e-Learning courses and activities. The course took participants through the full e-Learning design cycle. Content was unlocked on and packaged through design activities providing participants with the necessary concepts, methods and tools to approach their own e-Learning challenges. Representatives from selected youth-led organizations also accessed tailor-made, e-Learning coaching sessions. With the help of a professional e-Learning coach, participants tackled questions at the heart of their e-Learning project, and received feedback on their ideas for course design and implementation.
OBJECTIVES
By the end of the course, representatives from selected Kenya-based, youth-led organizations have:
- Defined instructional design fundamentals;
- Explored digital content production and content curation tools;
- Identified good practices for online facilitation, exploring suitable tools to engage learners in online environments;
- Differentiated between e-assessment and e-evaluation, learning about suitable online tools to carry out both;
- Developed an e-Learning project plan;
- Finalized and presented an e-Learning project designed for their organization.
CONTENT
Week 1 of the Co-Creation of e-Learning Services for Youth-Led Organizations course introduced participants to the variety of tools and techniques available for the live delivery of online training and the creation of digitally accessible training material. Participants also familiarized themselves with the newest tools shaping the current global e-Learning landscape, gaining insights into how to use them to the benefit of the communities they serve.
Week 2 of the course guided participants through the process of creating meaningful and engaging e-Learning journeys, while equipping them with the fundamentals of instructional design.
In Week 3, participants explored how to curate and produce content adapted to fully-digital and online environments. They also reflected on how to make content inclusive for all.
Week 4 of the course zoomed in on the differences existing between the role of technical support specialists and that of e-moderators. Participants explored some of the tools e-moderators have available to them to support the design of inclusive online conversations.
Week 5 focused on the question of evaluating and assessing the overall learning performance of students joining an e-Learning course. At the heart of this week was the overall theme of “Quality”: how to ensure it, how to maintain it, how to improve it.
Weeks 6 and 7 were weeks during which participants had the opportunity to introduce their e-Learning project idea to a world-class e-Learning coach. During dedicated 1-to-1 sessions, they discussed the content of their proposal and received feedback on how to further improve their overall e-Learning design, methods, and tools.
During Week 8 of the course, participants finalized their e-Learning project plan and presented it to the rest of course participants and convenors.
With the help of asynchronous activities, participants were also invited to take time to reflect upon their e-Learning journey.
