In today's rapidly changing global labour landscape, empowering women and youth within trade unions is critical for promoting social justice and inclusive economic growth. This 3-week course, offered by the Programme for Workers’ activities of International Training Centre of the International Labour Organization (ITCILO), has equipped trade union leaders, organizers, and activists in the Arab States with the knowledge and tools necessary to effectively engage and empower women and youth in the labour movement. OBJECTIVES • Understand the specific challenges and opportunities facing women and youth in the labour market of the Arab States • Develop strategies for inclusive trade union leadership that actively involves women and youth in decision-making processes • Learn effective communication and advocacy techniques to promote gender equality and youth empowerment within trade unions • Explore best practices and case studies from successful initiatives that have empowered women and youth in trade unions • Build a network of peers committed to advancing the role of women and youth in the labour movement CONTENT The online course consisted of 4 online modules and 6 live webinars: • Labour Market Challenges for Women and Youth in the Arab States • Engaging Women and Young People in Trade Unions • Trade Union Revitalization through Inclusiveness • Trade Unions Navigating and Shaping Change • Communicating for Impact • Leadership Module 1: Understanding the Labour Market in the Arab States Overview of ILO research findings on women and youth in the Arab States labour market. Identifying the unique challenges faced by women and youth in accessing decent work opportunities. Exploring the economic and social benefits of gender and youth inclusion in trade unions. Module 2: Building Inclusive Trade Union Leadership Strategies for promoting gender-responsive and youth-friendly trade union structures. Fostering a culture of diversity and inclusion within trade unions. Leadership development programs for women and youth. Module 3: Effective Communication and Advocacy Developing communication strategies to engage women and youth within trade unions. Advocating for gender equality and youth empowerment at the workplace and in the community. Addressing stereotypes and biases in trade union practices. Module 4: Best Practices and Networking Case studies of successful initiatives that have empowered women and youth within trade unions. Group discussions and peer learning sessions.
