OBJECTIVES The general objective of the workshop was to strengthen the capacity of perform the early detection, evaluation, medical screening and health surveillance of pneumoconiosis among workers exposed to noxious dusts. Upon completion of this workshop, participants were be able to: • Describe the main occupational respiratory diseases related to the inhalation of dust. • Use the ILO Classification of Radiographs of Pneumoconiosis for diagnostic purposes. • Apply the ILO Classification in health surveillance and medical screening of workers exposed to mineral dusts. • Transfer knowledge on how to use the ILO Classification of Radiographs of Pneumoconiosis. CONTENT • Overview of pneumoconiosis, silicosis and asbestosis • Uncommon pneumoconiosis lung diseases • Introduction of the ILO Classification of Radiographs of Pneumoconiosis • Reading sheet and symbols recoding in the ILO Classification • Standard films reading of the ILO Classification • Standards of Quality for Radiology in Pneumoconiosis • Criteria for practical diagnosis of silicosis, asbestosis and coal workers’ pneumoconiosis (CWP) • Use of the ILO digital images (ILO 2011-D) and Guidelines • X-ray Reading – General – Small-rounded opacities – Small-irregular opacities – Large opacities – Pleural abnormalities – Classification system review • Application of the ILO Classification in health surveillance and medical screening of workers exposed to mineral dusts • Evaluation of Pneumoconiosis by high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) • Challenges on the Occupational Respiratory Diseases (ORD) in the countries of participants • Study visit.
