Challenging times call for visionary leaders. As demand for social protection soars, the move to strengthen social protection systems gathers momentum. Advancing this agenda globally will require unequivocal resolve. This course aimed to ensure that professionals working in social protection across the world are empowered to step up to the challenge in order to drive change nationally and internationally. OBJECTIVES Through this training participants were be able to: - Identify trends and drivers: to learn in what ways these may shape the future of social protection and how international agendas can drive change at the national level. - Sharpen strategic thinking and vision: to ensure that these are centred on the shared core values and principles that underpin all social protection work. - Leverage human capital for inclusive leadership: leading the way to harness the power of the people within social security organisations and the ones they serve. - Resolve conflicts through dialogue: further social dialogue, conciliation and mediation skills to help leaders work through these in inclusive and effective ways. - Optimising business processes for improved performance: exercising dynamism and systems-thinking to ensure that business processes are optimised and make best use of available technologies. - Managing change by driving innovation: leading from the front while making sure no one is left behind when facing uncertain times is a considerable challenge. - Managing change, while embracing innovation and leading cohesive teams are essential characteristics for effective leadership. - Inspiring and motivating others: finding and amplifying one’s voice through effective communication to inspire and motivate others, working with the media and advocating to advance the social protection agenda at the national and international level. CONTENT - Exploring leadership, becoming more self-aware - Leading from purpose - What leadership looks like in practice - Building Strong Teams - Leadership and change management - Governance and Risk Management - Effective business processes - Negotiation simulation - Negotiation Strategies for Conflict Resolution - Inspire, motivate and communicate - Making the case for social protection: the elevator pitch - Working with the media ACHIEVEMENT The course consisted of 60 learning hours broken into three phases: - Pre-course (10 hours): Self-guided study through the online eCampus platform, including a pre-course assessment - Residential week (45 hours): 5-day interactive sessions at the ITCILO in Turin - Post-course assignment (5 hours): Individual assignment applying newly acquired leadership skills The assessment for this course, based on a total of 100 points, consisted of: • Pre-course Survey • Wall of Commitment • Final Evaluation • Participation • Final Assignment NUMBER OF HOURS The course on Leadership for Social Protection consisted of 60 learning hours over a period of 7 weeks.
