Sustainable and Resilient Enterprises (SURE)

Sustainable and Resilient Enterprises (SURE) is an ILO-GIZ training programme that seeks to strengthen the capacities of small enterprises to develop business resilience strategies. The SURE programme is delivered as a blended online training programme that consists of self-guided eLearning units, individual e-coaching sessions, and webinars. OBJECTIVES During the SURE Training of Trainers, the participants familiarized themselves with the SURE approach to providing small businesses with training and coaching support on business resilience including: 1. crisis leadership and staff engagement tools; 2. hazard identification and risk assessments; 3. business impact scenarios and risk management tools; 4. business adaptation strategies. CONTENT PHASE 1: Online Training of Trainers (20 hours) The 3-weeks online Training of Trainers was delivered by a team of experts from the ITC-ILO and partner institutions. The Training of Trainers covered the following topics: Introduction to business resilience, crisis leadership, staff engagement, the business ecosystem, critical business functions, hazard identification and impact scenarios, risk analysis, risk treatment, risk sharing approaches, incident management and recovery planning, business adaptation, training and skills development, continuous improvement, digital transformation and coaching for business resilience. Participants had to demonstrate full understanding of the SURE tools by preparing a business resilience strategy for a small business in their countries of origin and by submitting an action plan on the delivery of a SURE training during phase 2. PHASE 2: Training of entrepreneurs (50 hours) After the online Training of Trainers, participants had to demonstrate knowledge of the SURE training material and facilitation skills through: • Marketing and delivering the SURE training programme to at least 15 small businesses • Customising SURE training material to respond to clients’ needs and operating context • Facilitating linkages with other service providers that promote business resilience (e.g. insurance companies, local BDS providers, etc.) • Coaching of SURE participants to finalise their business resilience strategies PHASE 3: Certification (5 hours) Upon completion of phase 2, participants were required to submit a final report to the ITC-ILO to provide evidence of having organized, designed, and delivered a SURE training and coaching to at least 15 small enterprises. ACHIEVEMENT Participants have completed a business resilience strategy and they have successfully conducted SURE training and coaching to a group of at least 15 entrepreneurs in their own country.
