Peer-to-Peer Learning Forum in ACP Countries

The Peer-to-Peer Learning Forum for African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) countries on ‘Promoting green jobs in agriculture to support climate change adaptation and mitigation’ was a tailor-made activity organized by the Investment Climate Reform facility (ICR facility) and the International Training Centre of the International Labour Organization (ITCILO) for government officials, practitioners and professionals of ACP countries involved in designing and implementing local, sectoral, national strategies for the transition to greener economies. OBJECTIVES The objective of this Forum is to foster exchanges between participants on how to effectively design and implement green jobs and green works initiatives to transition to a greener and more resilient society, identifying good practices and discussing related challenges. CONTENT The Forum included: 1. One introductory session on the linkages between climate change and the world of work, as well as the rationale for promoting and implementing green jobs. 2. Three topic sessions: The forum will be focused on green jobs in the sustainable/Climate smart agriculture, and would include three of the following topics: • Enabling the investment climate for Green jobs in agriculture: identifying and promoting green jobs opportunities in the agriculture sector to ensure a green and inclusive recovery from the COVID pandemic; • Green jobs through green infrastructure investments: understanding how green infrastructure investments can create environmentally friendly jobs while creating climate resilient infrastructure in the agriculture sector; • Advancing a just transition through the promotion of green jobs in the circular economy: to reflect on the environmental impact of today’s linear economy and the business opportunities for a transformation to a circular economy, and how green jobs are key for circular economy models to thrive.
