STATA for Labour Market Analysis

OBJECTIVES The main objective of the course was “to provide participants with the skills needed to use the computer software STATA to analyze the labour market for evidence-based policymaking, including SDG and decent work indicators.” The course was designed to enhance institutional capacities to identify, collect, analyze and disseminate labour market information and other indicators related to the SDGs indicator framework. Moreover, the course also emphasized the latest 20th ICLS resolutions concerning work statistics as an important pillar to measure progress towards the 2030 agenda, particularly Goal 8 on promoting inclusive and sustainable growth, employment and decent work for all.” Specific Learning Objectives • Enhance understanding about the definitions, terminologies, and resolutions of labour statistics; • Understand the Decent work and SDG indicators framework; • Foster better understanding and operationalization of key international statistical standards; • Promote sound statistical data processing and analysis of indicators; • Acquire a comprehensive understanding of how STATA is applied to analyze the labour market and translate it into adequate policymaking; • Obtain a better understanding on the various measurements of labour force indicators using STATA. CONTENT The course content focused on: • Overview of labour statistics • Defining and measuring employment, unemployment, potential labour force, NEET, TRU • Classifications of ISCO-08 and ISIC Rev.4 • Classifications of ICSE 93 and ICSE 18 • Data analysis and Interpretation of labour statistics • Measuring the informal sector / Measuring informal employment • Deriving key SDG labour market variables with STATA o SDG Indicator 8.5.2: Unemployment rate SDG Indicator 8.6.1: Proportion of youth NEET o SDG Indicator 5.5.2: Proportion of women in managerial positions o SDG Indicator 8.3.1: Proportion of informal employment in total employment
