SOUTH ASIA REGIONAL TRAINING ON EVIDENCE-BASED POLICY MAKING FOR DECENT WORK

: The aim of this online training was to build capacities of participants using specific case studies, research papers, guidelines, and other data and information sources for evidence-based policy making for decent work. The themes were broadly along the lines of Labour Migration and Skills in South Asia. OBJECTIVES The aim of this online training was to build capacities of participants using specific case studies, research papers, guidelines, and other data and information sources for evidence-based policy making for decent work. The themes were broadly along the lines of Labour Migration and Skills in South Asia. CONTENT The course has been broken down into two phases: 1. Pre-course learning: flexible (asynchronous) self-guided online learning on e-Campus ; 2. ‘Real time’ learning: Live interactive sessions and engaging video presentations by highly experienced trainers, blended with individual and collaborative group exercises, and online technical forums on e-Campus. The course was implemented over a period of 5 half-days and was structured around 4 content modules, with in-session activities. Day 1: Opening remarks, Introduction to the ILO and decent work agenda Day 2: Introduction to Evidence-Based Policy Making for decent work Day 3: Searching for Evidence Day 4: Appraising Evidence Day 5: Wrap Up and Learning Milestones ACHIEVEMENT At the end of the course, the participants have : • Built skills and knowledge for evidence-based policy making, advocacy and services provisions for decent work; • Reflected upon how South Asian governments can respond to the issues raised in the ILO centenary Declaration; • explored how to promote a culture of evidence-based policy making, advocacy and service provisions; how to prioritize and build a robust evidence base for policy reconciling different perspectives, findings, and, conflicting evidence; • Understood the various facets of the informal labour market and built an understanding along the themes of labour migration and skills, especially in the context of South Asia.
