The capacity-building programme aimed to develop knowledge and tools to enable talented women to strengthen core skills to access and successfully undertake leadership roles and ultimately to enhance women empowerment and gender equality in public life.
OBJECTIVES
The specific objectives were the following:
• to identify formal and informal obstacles and barriers to women’s ability to be a leader.
• to engage participants in the transition from being a great technical/functional expert to becoming a leader with a greater institutional role, which is a critical stage in leadership development.
• to strengthen participants’ potentials to fully participate in public life and contribute to Egypt's development in different arenas.
CONTENT
At the end of the training programme the participants were able to :
• Better understand the key concepts of leadership styles.
• Be aware of women leadership as a field of study and how it can help understand the context and related practice.
• Identify tools that will help strengthen leadership skills (at individual and system level).
• Accelerate the transition to a bigger leadership role.
• Improve communication skills to share vision, get support and manage resistances .
• Manage relationships: building network and gain influence without authority.
• Implement negotiation skills in different contexts.
• Address decision making processes.
• Integrate gender sensitive, responsive and or transformative approaches into Government policies and programmes with a specific focus on SDGs national/local planning.
• Acquire critical self-awareness and self-reflective skills and define own leadership style, experiment with new approaches (strengthen Emotional Intelligence).
• Develop relevant capacities and abilities concerning systemic change, to successfully lead and execute change, build and manage flexible and virtuous systems at any level.
• Understand how the mind-set, confidence and capabilities can lead change in own setting.
• Create an Action Plan, setting clear actionable and SMART objectives.
