Advocacy and Communication for Social Protection

Advocacy and communication are essential to establish a rights-based culture of social protection, to inform policy-making, and to ensure that programmes are aligned with international standards and meet people’s needs. Well-coordinated advocacy is pivotal if countries are to take the ‘high-road’ towards universal social protection. This e-learning course enabled the participants articulate what needs to change and why. It taught them how to better plan their advocacy and communication efforts and it helped them to find their voice to persuasively convey your vision and make change happen. OBJECTIVES Through this training participants were be able to learn: 1. How to conduct a policy analysis, research and diagnostics and why these are essential to any policy reform. 2. Why a contextualised problem analysis can help identify priority issues. 3. How key international advocacy initiatives and coalitions are helping to set the global social protection agenda. 4. How to plan advocacy and communication initiatives and develop effective strategies. 5. Why stakeholders matter and how to profile them in order to understand what they care most about and how to can best convey our messages to them. 6. How to craft a convincing narrative to convey our vision for change and galvanise others to take action. 7. How to convey messages in an engaging way to different audiences, including the media and policy-makers. 8. How to monitor your advocacy and communication efforts and understand whether you have made a difference. CONTENT 1. Live Session 1.b | De-mystifying Advocacy 2. Live Session 6.a | Knowing whether you have made a difference ACHIEVEMENT The course consisted of a number of online modules offered through the eCampus over a period of six weeks for an estimated total of 60 learning hours. The assessment for this course, based on a total of 100 points, consisted of: 1. Introductory Video 2. Introductory Survey 3. Pre-KAT 4. Post-KAT 5. Final Evaluation 6. Wall of Commitment 7. Learning modules 8. Discussion Forum 9. Weekly Assignments 10. Final Assignment NUMBER OF HOURS: The e-learning course on Advocacy and Communication for Social Protection consisted of 60 hours of learning.
