The “Global Governance and Innovation Talents Camp” is a tailor-made course organized by the International Training Centre of the International Labour Organization (ITCILO) for students of Xi’An Jiaotong University (XJTU), Xi’An, China.
With a history dating back to 1896, Xi’An Jiaotong University is a comprehensive university with 10 major categories of disciplines (science, engineering, medicine, economics, management, humanities, law, philosophy, education and art), 26 schools (departments/centres), 9 university colleges for undergraduates and 20 affiliated teaching hospitals. As one of the first universities to open in China, Xi’An Jiaotong University was supported by the Central Government through the 7th and 8th Five-Year Plans, China's “Project 211”, and “Project 985” to develop into a world-class university. Today, XJTU is on the List of World-class Universities and First-Class Disciplines (abbreviated as “Double First-Class”) released in 2017 by the Ministry of Education of China.
In 2019, the Employment and Entrepreneurship Guidance Service Center of Xi’An Jiaotong University developed the “XJTU Global Governance and Innovation Talents Camp” with the aim of supporting foreign language and international studies majors in their ambition toward becoming outstanding international civil servants and overall global governance professionals.
The ITCILO is dedicated to the delivery of high quality, relevant and effective training in support of decent work and sustainable development; a mandate rooted in Sustainable Development Goal 8: “Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all”.
OBJECTIVES
The Global Governance and Innovation Talents Camp equipped participants with core conceptual and practical tools for the pursuit of a career in international organizations.
Specifically, it enabled participants to:
• Acquire an understanding of the 2030 Agenda SDGs and the roles young professionals can play in supporting their achievement from within International Organizations;
• Hone skills essential to the pursuit of a career in the UN system and beyond.
CONTENT
The Global Governance and Innovation Talents Camp covered the following topics:
• Envisioning and Designing a Career in the UN System
In this session, participants learnt from UN officials how to model their individual UN career path after their talents and aspirations.
• Key Skills for UN Leadership
This session enabled participants to familiarize themselves with the range of core skills needed for the pursuit of a UN career.
• Project Design for Social Entrepreneurship
Participants acquired project design skills essential for the pursuit of an entrepreneurial career that can meaningfully contribute to sustainable development.
ACHIEVEMENT
With the completion of this course, participants have acquired:
• Tools to envision, design and pursue their dream career within the UN System;
• Fundamental UN competency-based skills for the pursuit of an international career;
• Knowledge of essential steps for the design and implementation of sustainable enterprises.
