Labour Migration and Mobility Global Toolkit

Crossing national borders to work is one of the key motivations behind international migration, whether driven by economic inequalities, seeking employment, or both. The additional impact of economic, political, and environmental crises, demographic shifts, and conflicts influences migration trends. The migration process entails complex challenges in terms of governance, migrant workers’ protection, migration and development linkages, and international cooperation in crisis response.

 

OBJECTIVES

This course aims to:

Enhance Understanding of Labour Migration Governance: Provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the principles, frameworks, challenges and opportunities surrounding the governance of labour migration, including developing, negotiating and implementing bilateral labour migration agreements.

 

Strengthen Migrant Workers' Protection Mechanisms:

Equip participants with knowledge on international standards and best practices to protect migrant workers’ rights, ensure access to social protection for them and their families, and promote fair recruitment practices.

 

Leverage the linkages between Migration and Development:

Explore the interconnections between migration and development, with a focus on fostering economic growth, addressing skills gaps, and enhancing social cohesion.

 

Address Crisis Migration Challenges:

Analyse strategies to improve access to decent work for refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs), especially in contexts of economic, political, and environmental crises.

RESULTS

The course content has been designed to provide participants with a solid understanding of labour migration governance, including policies, agreements, and fair recruitment standards, while also acquiring practical skills and tools to enhance the protection of migrant workers and their families. Participants will also be able to identify and leverage the developmental impacts of migration, fostering inclusive growth and workforce and developing strategies to address migration challenges in crisis contexts, ensuring access to decent work for refugees and internally displaced persons. At the end of the course, Participants will be better equipped to provide evidence-based recommendations for labour migration policies and international cooperation initiatives.
