Effective public employment services in Asia and the Pacific with a focus on youth employment and the role of technology

This course aimed to strengthen the capacity of Member States to design and implement effective employment services for a human-centred recovery. A particular focus was given to the use of digital tools and new technologies to support the (re)-integration of the young population in decent employment. OBJECTIVES By the end of this one-week training, participants have: • Strengthened their understanding of the role of employment services in facilitating labour market transitions, targeting in particular youth, different sub-groups of youth and other vulnerable groups; • Improved their knowledge on the importance of labour market information and the role of public employment services to improve the collection and dissemination of labour market information; • Gained a thorough understanding of how to effectively design and implement inclusive, targeted and innovative labour market services and programs; • A better understanding of the impact of different (Active) Labour Market Policies ((A)LMPs); • Examined the challenges in terms of the management of employment services and the modernization of service delivery systems, with a particular focus on the use of new technologies; • Increased their understanding on how to promote public-private partnerships and dialogue at the national and the local levels, in the public, private and third sectors, in a concerted manner in order to influence policymaking; • Strengthened the South-South and triangular cooperation between the participating countries. CONTENT This course covered policy approaches and operational tools for effective delivery of employment services, with particular emphasis on the use of technology and the promotion of youth employment. This one-week course will be structured around the following blocks: • employment services in the region • employment services for job seekers • employment services for employers • the role of technology in employment services • labour market information • (active) labour market policies • partnerships for the delivery of employment services and ALMPs
