The Academy was a comprehensive multi-disciplinary training package designed by the Workers’ Activities Programme of the International Training Centre of the ILO to address different aspects of the just transition towards environmentally sustainable economies and societies, implemented for the first time in the digital format. The Academy was implemented over the period of 4 weeks, each week introduced a different module through webinars, self-guided and tutor-led learning.
The Academy provided the participants with a wide range of ILO policies and tools in order to support them in advancing union strategies and actions on the subject matter i.e. ILO ACTRAV Policy Brief on just transition towards environmentally sustainable economies and societies for all, skills development for just transition and green jobs, ILO Policy Brief on the green recovery. A significant part of the Academy focused on the exchanges of good practices among the unions from the national level as well as with the ITUC and global union federations, especially IndustriAll global Union and ITF who illustrated the sectoral approach. Regional webinars were organized to provide the participants with an overview of the projects by the ILO Green Jobs Programme, ILO-ACTRAV and ITUC projects and other initiatives by region, highlighting lessons learned from implemented projects and providing concrete guidance on how to get involved in ongoing and future activities. In cooperation with the ETUC, the Academy presented the EU climate action and the European Green Deal and their impact on the workers. Finally, the Academy collected and disseminated trade union examples of workers’ involvement in a just transition.
OBJECTIVES
Upon successful completion of the course, participants are able to :
• get involved and provide inputs into the process around Nationally Determined Contributions
• take an active part in ILO projects and activities on just transition and green jobs
• join the group of trade unionists who are actively involved in COPs
• get involved in international trade union campaigns and actions on the topic
CONTENT
The Academy covered four learning modules:
Module 1. Diving into the Topic of Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability
Module 2. Building Back Better and Greener
Module 3. Pro-active Role of Trade Unions: Experience Sharing
Module 4: Ways Forward in Promoting ‘Just Transition’
The Academy combined asynchronous and synchronous learning sessions in a complementary way. The Academy comprised eight (8) live webinars of 2 hours duration each, a series of self-guided eLEARNING modules and assignments on the e-campus facilitated by online tutors.
ECAMPUS
The Academy was delivered via the E-campus, the education platform of the International Training Centre of the ILO. The online platform was used for the distribution of course information, communication and collaboration, accessing self-guided eLEARNING modules and other training materials, tutor-based learning, research and reading assignments, perr-to-peer exchanges of good practices and experiences, feedback and multimedia content.
REQUIREMENTS OF THE ACADEMY
The certificate of participation is awarded upon completion of significant part of the academy requirements: i) participation in the webinars; ii) interaction with the on-line tutor; iii) completion of self-guided eLEARNING modules; iv) visualization of multimedia content; v) submission of written assignments and weekly posts to the forum. The estimated time for the completion of the Academy was approximately 30 hours.
