What are violence and harassment and how are they defined? How do they manifest in the world of work, what is the gender dimension and what are their impacts at different levels? Why is it important to put an end to this phenomenon and how to go about it? what is the framework for action set out by the Convention and Recommendation and what are the good practices emerging from around the globe?
What is discrimination in the world of work and what does Convention n. 111 say about it? Who is protected and where? Why must policy makers and social partners address it? How can policy makers and social partners use C. 111 and its accompanying Recommendation as a framework for action? Which measures match different target groups’ needs?
OBJECTIVES
o acquired the language and core principles applied by the Conventions and accompanying recommendations;
o identified their key provisions, through a gender lens;
o mastered the arguments in favour of eradicating these phenomena from the world of work, globally and within the context of Qatar;
o acquired practical tools to apply within your work context to bring about positive change.
CONTENT
Discrimination and C. 111:
o Definition – factual element, prohibited grounds, adverse effect, exceptions;
o Root causes and impact; human rights and economic arguments towards addressing it;
o Who does what: the role of different actors, how to address it at different levels.
Violence and Harassment and C 190:
o Approach, definitions, underlying causes and risk factors;
o Costs and impact, human rights and economic arguments towards eradicating the phenomenon;
o Scope and coverage, the integrated framework for action
