Statistics Of International Labour Migration And Migrant Recruitment Costs In South Asia

The GOALS programme, a UN Joint Programme between ILO, IOM and UN Women supported by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, provides support particularly to national statistical offices to improve data collection on labour migration using the guidelines endorsed by the 20th International Conference of Labour Statisticians (ICLS) in October 2018, and on migrant recruitment costs following the draft Guidelines and Operations Manual prepared in 2019 by the ILO and the WB, as co-custodians of SDG Indicator 10.7.1. This capacity support includes training sessions, workshops for statisticians, technical officers and policymakers on the concepts and methods of international labour migration statistics; direct assistance to NSOs, in partnership with the ILO-WB KNOMAD, to conduct specialized surveys to measure SDG 10.7.1; as well as high-level regional meetings to promote dialogue among key stakeholders and information sharing across the sub-region. In the framework of the GOALS programme, as part of capacity building, the ITCILO in close collaboration with the ILO Department of Statistics and the ILO Regional Office for South Asia organized a high-level regional workshop on “Statistics of international labour migration and migrant recruitment costs in South Asia.” The workshop will take place between 28 – 30 November in Kathmandu, Nepal.
