The workshop helps new officials settle into the ILO. The objectives are to develop an understanding of the ILO’s culture and values, clarify the ILO’s objectives, structure and working relationships, and foster a sense of belonging. The workshop provide participants with information of the history, vision and strategic direction of the ILO, It allows them to explore key areas in which the ILO operates and essential mechanisms for achieving Decent Work.
OBJECTIVES
The ILO Leadership Programme aims to achieve several objectives, including:
1. Developing Leadership Skills: The programme is designed to enhance participants' leadership capabilities, equipping them with the skills and knowledge necessary to lead effectively within the ILO and beyond.
2. Driving Organizational Impact: Participants are expected to implement Action Learning Projects (ALPs) that contribute to the organization's goals and priorities, thereby driving positive change and impact within the ILO.
3. Fostering Learning and Reflection: The programme encourages participants to engage in self-reflection, peer learning sessions, and knowledge sharing to deepen their learning and accelerate organizational impact.
4. Promoting Practical Application: Emphasizing the practical application of learning, the programme encourages participants to work on projects that are relevant to their current work or will be of use in the near future, ensuring that the learning is immediately applicable.
5. Supporting Individual and Collective Learning: Participants have the option to engage in individual or collective learning, allowing for diverse, cross-functional group engagement within their action learning projects.
CONTENT
The ILO Leadership Programme has several key features including:
1. Action Learning Projects: Participants work on real-world projects that are relevant to their current or future work. This practical approach helps participants apply what they learn in the programme to their daily work and achieve tangible results.
2. Individual and Collective Learning: Participants can choose to work individually or in diverse, cross-functional groups within their action learning projects. This approach fosters collaboration, knowledge sharing, and peer coaching, which enriches the learning experience.
3. Leadership Portraits: Participants create leadership portraits that help them reflect on their leadership style, strengths, and areas for development. This self-awareness is a critical component of effective leadership.
4. Knowledge Sharing: Participants have opportunities to connect and exchange with other leaders in the Office or with participants from previous years' programmes. This expands their network and exposes them to diverse perspectives and experiences.
5. Manager Support: Participants need support from their managers to succeed in the programme. The programme provides guidance and resources to help participants engage their managers and teams in their action learning projects.
Overall, the ILO Leadership Programme's combination of practical, individual, and collective learning, self-reflection, knowledge sharing, and manager support contributes to its success in developing effective leaders who can drive organizational change and impact.
