“Productivity Ecosystems to Decent Work” aims to enhance the skills of policy makers and practitioners in assessing and designing policies to improve productivity and working conditions in SMEs. Adopting a systemic approach to SME productivity and decent work, the course explores the interfacing dynamics contributing to productivity growth and more decent work at the national, sectoral and enterprise level. OBJECTIVES During the course, participants: • Defined and understood the main concepts surrounding productivity • Calculated, interpreted, and compared different productivity measurement methods and indicators • Identified the main drivers of productivity growth in SMEs and their interrelation • Understood the linkages between productivity and working conditions in SMEs; • Assessed the effectiveness of productivity-enhancing initiatives at the micro, meso, and macro level • discussed and examined methods to share the gains of productivity enhancement in SMEs. CONTENT The course is structured around three modules: • The first module, “Why productivity matters,” introduced the concept of productivity and its importance for economic growth, job creation, and improved working conditions. • The second module, “What drives productivity,” examined the key factors that contribute to productivity growth, at the macro, meso, and micro level. • Finally, the third module, “Promoting productivity enhancement,” explored effective policy interventions to support productivity-enhancing investments and practices, with a focus on SMEs.
