As nations in the Global South faced climate change, natural disasters, conflicts, and economic downturns, regional cooperation proved vital. This forum facilitated peer-to-peer learning among policymakers, research institutions, and development partners from Asia and the Arab States, focusing on employment-intensive approaches for crisis response and climate adaptation works for sustainable development.
By bringing together government officials, ILO staff, development practitioners, research institutions, academia, and donor organizations, the forum sought to enhance the integration of employment-intensive investments into national policies and programs, while fostering new South-South partnerships for knowledge transfer and collaboration.
OBJECTIVES
Participants assessed challenges, gaps, and opportunities, formed new South-South and Triangular Cooperation (SSTC) partnerships, and developed an action plan for integrating Employment-Intensive Investment Programme (EIIP) approaches into national policies with the support of the ILO.
Panel Discussions & Case Studies
The forum featured panel discussions and case study presentations that showcased experiences and best practices in EIIP implementation across Asia and the Arab States. These sessions also explored practical applications of EIIP in crisis response, recovery, and green job creation.
Field Visits
Participants visited rural community projects, with a particular focus on natural resource management, to observe the on-the-ground application of employment-intensive approaches.
Networking
The event strengthened South-South partnerships and contributed to the development of actionable plans for mainstreaming employment-intensive strategies within national development frameworks.
