The Certification Programme on the Approach to Inclusive Market Systems seeks to develop the participant’s knowledge of the Market Systems Development approach as a tool to promote the economic integration of migrants and returnees.
OBJECTIVES
During the training, participants:
• Learned how to Identify high-growth value chains with the potential to generate decent employment for migrant population and host communities;
• Acquired the tools to analyze a value chain and identify systemic constraints to small business growth and decent job creation
• Designed business model-based pilot interventions to achieve a vision of how value chains and markets should function;
• Learned the difference between direct delivery of enterprise development interventions and market system facilitation
• Developed their capacity to lead and facilitate market systems analysis in their country and context
CONTENT
The course used a participatory, action-oriented approach based on practical examples of projects in the field. The focus was on how the value chain and facilitative approach can help change the business practices of private sector firms to create sustainable, large-scale benefits for the poor. Participants learned to:
• Analyse livelihoods through the market-systems framework
• Identify demand-driven livelihoods opportunities for migrants and returnees
• Understand market failures and constraint that prevent migrants and returnees from maximising their livelihoods opportunities
• Articulate a vision for market-based livelihoods interventions
• Facilitate inclusive business models in cooperation with the private sector
• Develop results chains and indicators to monitor the impact of interventions.
ACHIEVEMENT
Participants have completed a one two week online training course (30 hours) and successfully conducted a market system analysis in their own country, using the Approach to Inclusive Market Systems approach to developed concrete interventions plans based on the results of the analysis (40 hours).
