The E-Learning course on Career Guidance is part of the Skills Academy for Lebanon, comprising a series of training programmes that are the result of extensive consultation and coordination work with the Country office of the ILO in Lebanon. The overall aim of the course is to sensitize participants to the concepts and skills underlying the delivery of culturally grounded career guidance services for Lebanese adolescents and youth broadly in the 15 to 25 years age range. The course is designed to enable participants to increase their capacities to improve, plan and implement career guidance services and contribute to policy development in their country. The emphasis will be on the skills of implementing culturally resonant career guidance services rather than on theoretical constructs.
OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of the course, participants will:
• Be able to critically describe the key elements of career guidance including a) skills for self-understanding (e.g., use of culture fair assessment tools), b) skills for understanding the world of work (e.g., compiling educational and career information), c) skills for developing a career development blueprint for life (e.g., generating career alternatives) and d) career preparation (see third point below).
• Have the knowledge and skills to develop their own tools for the delivery of career guidance services to facilitate in their clients: a) improved insight into personal interests, aptitudes and values (e.g., developing a personal potential profile), b) the ability to improve their understanding of the world of work (e.g., learning about educational milestones and acquiring career information), c) the ability to generate career alternatives based on their potentials (e.g., matching personal potentials to suitable careers).
• Have the knowledge and skills to develop their own tools to facilitate career preparation skills in their clients including a) self-presentation skills (e.g., writing a CV, cover letter, facing an interview), b) skills to navigate the labour market (e.g., job search skills) and c) the ability to anticipate and plan career shifts.
CONTENT
This course will consist of the following learning units:
• MODULE 1: EMPLOYMENT SERVICES
• MODULE 2: KEY ELEMENTS OF CAREER GUIDANCE AND TOOLS AND TECHNIQUES TO PROMOTE SELF-UNDERSTANDING
• MODULE 3: SKILLS FOR UNDERSTANDING THE WORLD OF WORK
• MODULE 4: SKILLS FOR CAREER PREPARATION
METHODOLOGY
This innovative e-learning course has been designed according to a learner-centered approach in order to better involve participants and keep them motivated. It is highly interactive and engaging, using different methods throughout the four parts of the course to make the content interesting, relevant and entertaining.
