The aim of this course was to better understand the trade, investment and labour market nexus and its implications for the Asian region in terms of decent work, responsible business practices and sustainable development. OBJECTIVES At the end of the course, participants were be able to better advise their institutions on: • the linkages between trade, foreign direct investment and decent work, • formulation of trade and investment policies to facilitate dialogue and support decent work. • domestic policies for the promotion of sustainable enterprises CONTENT The following topics were addressed: a. Regional and sectoral trends: ILO’s Decent Work indicators and trade frameworks b. Trade, investment policy and decent work, such as labour provisions in trade and investment arrangements c. Responsible business conduct, ILS and HRDD, d. Tripartite Declaration of Principles concerning Multinational Enterprises and Social Policy (MNE Declaration) e. Enabling environment for Sustainable Enterprises f. Safe and healthy work environments NUMBER OF HOURS: 30
