Mainstreaming Employment into Trade and Investment (METI) is a four-year project funded by the European Union (EU) and implemented by the International Labour Organization (ILO). It aims to enable policymakers in the Southern Mediterranean region to better incorporate an employment perspective into trade and investment policies. This will support the design and implementation of investment strategies that optimize the quantity and quality of employment creation in the region.
The second edition of METI’s regional training workshops focused on the “Investment and Employment” nexus.
OBJECTIVES
The Regional Technical Training aimed to:
• discuss conceptual, methodological, and data issues in analyzing the effects of trade and investment policies on employment in countries of the Southern Mediterranean;
• improve institutional capacities to collect, classify and analyze data on trade, investment and employment;
• promote the proficiency of specialists in the use of quantitative and qualitative techniques for assessing the impact of trade and investment policies on employment; and
• encourage regional peer-learning.

• Trade, investment and employment nexus
• Measurement of investment and employment
• Data on investment and employment
• Frameworks and guidance for sustainable investments
• Trade, foreign direct investment and regional integration
• Foreign direct investment, technology, local innovation and capability development
