Employers’ and Business Members Organizations and Sustainable Development Goals

30 November - 18 December 2020 Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) highlight the need for improved cooperation between the public and private sectors. The implementation of SDGs at national level creates opportunities for engagement but also challenges to find mutually benefiting synergies. Employers’ and Business Members Organizations (EBMOs) can provide a framework to help businesses develop strategies compatible with national sustainability goals, understand their implications and provide coherent solutions. The online course aimed at giving practical tools to EBMOs Staff and Board members to promote the business case for engagement and harness the potential of engaging with SDGs, within an international cohort of experts and peers. Duration: 3 weeks, 20 hours OBJECTIVES Participants learned what is expected from private sector and identified response strategies. • The must-know on SDGs and national implementation processes • How the private sector can harness opportunities to make a positive impact • EBMOs strategies to contribute to national sustainability goals CONTENT This course provided an in-depth explanation of the SDGs and how businesses can work toward achieving them. • The business case for improved engagement with the SDGs • Private sector contributions that promote the SDGs • Country-specific and sub-regional responses to the 2030 Agenda ACHIEVEMENT Each week during the 3 weeks of the training , participants attended a webinar and completed asynchronous learning activities including self-paced modules, selected readings, quizzes. Team work was organized to hone professional skills directly relevant to EBMOs’ work on SDGs. At the end of this course, participants are now able to: • Influence the relationship between the business community and the SDGs • Collect and report data related to the SDGs and take positive action • Engage with decision-makers and offer evidence-based solutions • Strengthen the link between the SDGs and the business community at country level • Assess and review private sector strategies to promote the 2030 Agenda
