Excessive working hours should be avoided to protect workers’ physical and mental health. ICS Code of Conduct on Working Hours must comply with national laws and the International Labour Organization (ILO) conventions, which afford greater protection to ensure workers' health, safety, and welfare. Providing a reasonable and agreed-upon number of working hours can improve worker safety and welfare.
In collaboration with the ITC-ILO (International Training Centre of the ILO), ICS seeks further to tackle the subject through online self-paced training modules stretching over six weeks. The course explains the different issues that factories and suppliers, primary targets for the training, encounter through real-life examples and case studies. It also offers practical solutions and possible best practices to address excessive working time in the workplace.
OBJECTIVES
By the end of the training programme, participants are able to:
• List the different issues that factories and suppliers encounter regarding working time.
• Identify some practical approaches for reducing excessively long working hours and for limiting the use of overtime, while maintaining or even increasing productivity.
• Review the practical steps necessary to design and implement a new working time arrangement.
CONTENT
The training will consist of a hybrid approach consisting of two live webinar sessions and completing 4 self-paced training modules and assignments with the contents:
Module 1: Basics of working time
Module 2: Rest periods and leave
