Master in Technology and Public Policy

The students acquired a combination of science, technical and policy analysis tools, techniques and skills to recognise and anticipate change while responding to complex situations in their respective relevant fields. The Master increased skills and employability of attendants in fields like public administration bodies, political parties, strategic advisory, trade unions, departments of institutional relations and public affairs of large enterprises, etc.

This Master’s course had a twofold objective: to provide the expertise and competences needed to understand technological innovation and the consequent challenges it poses, and to train actors who can steer and govern this innovation through public policy.

CONTENTS and OBJECTIVES

The curriculum combined a distance-learning phase with a two-month face-to-face component, and covered the following core modules:

 

DISTANCE-LEARNING:

  • Distance Learning Module: Introduction to Public Policy Analysis, Policy Design and Innovation;

  • Vertical Skills Module: AI and Big Data for Public Policy;

  • Vertical Skills Module: Technology for Sustainability, Inclusion and Social Impact.

 

FACE-TO-FACE PHASE:

  • Transversal Module: Technology, Production and Public Policy Issue;

  • Transversal Module: Socio-Economic Determinants, Correlates and Impacts of Technology.

ACHIEVEMENT

The students were required to sit for the following five exams:

  • Distance learning module;

  • Vertical Skills Module: AI and Big Data for Public Policy;

  • Vertical Skills Module: Technology for Sustainability, Inclusion and Social Impact.

  • Transversal Module: Technology, Production and Public Policy Issue;

  • Transversal Module: Socio-Economic Determinants, Correlates and Impacts of Technology.

 

As part of the third phase of the programme, the students will develop a specific project that will constitute their Master’s final thesis.

The Master’s diploma will be awarded upon successful passing of all exams and thesis submission.

Distance Learning: 25 weeks

Face-to-Face: 9 weeks
