Digital Global Workers' Academy on the Future of Trade Unions

The Digital Global Workers' Academy on the Future of Trade Unions gathered together over one hundred trade unionists worldwide to engage into peer-to-peer learning experience and explore new approaches and strategies to build and consolidate trade union resilience in the world of work which is constantly changing and transforming. Transformations are happening in the context of changing labour markets, driven by technological advancement and digitalisation, climate and environmental changes, globalization and demographic shifts. The Academy offered a series of examples on how trade unions can more successfully promote and defend workers' rights, respond to changing employment relationships and structural economic changes and how to effectively ensure broad and inclusive workers' representation, provide innovative and relevant services, cooperate with broader segments in society and ensure good governance. The Academy combined asynchronous and synchronous learning sessions and every week participants tackled different topics. Weekly learning programmes consisted of live webinars (synchronous) and tutor-led learning through reading materials, watching videos, studying self-guided learning modules and completing practical tasks and assignments dedicated to the weekly topic. Participants were required to prepare the final assignment using the contents and analytical and planning tools mastered during the Academy. CONTENT The Academy was organized as a 5-week Learning Journey comprising five modules: I. State of Play; II. Innovating Membership; III. Unions Matter; IV. Good Governance and V. Roadmap for the Future. The Academy organized ten live webinars on the following topics: I. Introduction to the Future of Trade Unions; II. Trade Unions in Transformation; III.
