The COVID-19 pandemic profoundly disrupted the educational system, highlighting the need for resilience through technology.
The shift from traditional in-person training to the widespread adoption of distance learning not only facilitated adaptation but also unlocked other potentials, such as issues of inclusion, access, improvement, and optimisation of processes within TVET centres. It also spurred the modernisation of TVET centres, fostering greater student engagement and delivering quality training tailored to the future of work. Since then, technological advancements have continued to progress.
Today’s challenges are more complex with the advent and proliferation of AI. TVET centres will need to rethink their economic models, understand the e-learning market, and adapt their offerings to meet competency demands. Additionally, as ongoing innovation constantly reshapes these demands, TVET centres must develop unprecedented adaptability. It is essential to highlight that risks are also multiplied by the vast and unrestricted access to technology. This necessitates a crucial transversal skill for TVET centre managers and educators, which will be addressed in this course.
Finally, technology, more than ever, places humans at the centre of the issue. In the context of TVET, a learner-centred approach is fundamental to the new generation of pedagogy.
OBJECTIVES
During the distance learning phase, participants will have the opportunity to become familiar with:
Digitization of TVET
The ILO’s digitization reference framework
Technological solutions for diverse types of TVET Systems, including AI
Processes and stages of hybridization of training devices.
During the face-to-face phase, participants will delve into the key steps in the process of TVET systems digitalization strategy by working collaboratively on concrete case studies, while being directly exposed to the trends and opportunities that digitization of TVET can offer.
CONTENT
This course aims to provide the fundamental elements of digital transformation within the TVET system and to equip participants not only to initiate such changes but also to maintain their relevance in a constantly evolving technological landscape. The training will cover:
Overview and state of play of the digitization of the main devices within the technical and vocational training and skills systems
Definition of digital and inclusive training strategies
Decomposition of skills repositories and digitization of curricula
Methodologies and multimodal pedagogical approaches focused on the learner
Main technological solutions / technologies for the digitization of TVET (including Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality)
