Responsible business conduct, international labour standards and decent work: the approach of the ILO

This 4 -day course will provide an in-depth introduction to the concept of Responsible Business Conduct as it related to labour issues. It will look into the different but complementary roles and responsibilities for government, enterprises and social partners. In addition, the workshop will discuss the importance of policy coherence and (social) dialogue at the national level when engaging with actors from the public and private sector to advance RBC. OBJECTIVES The course will support and facilitate the development of a national roadmap to encourage sustainable and responsible business practices taking into account the guidance offered by the ILO MNE Declaration. CONTENT At the end of the course, participants will have an enhanced understanding of - The concept of responsible business conduct and the different international frameworks underpinning RBC - The ILO Tripartite Declaration of Principles concerning Multinational Enterprises and Social Policy, including the Operational Tools, Annex II - Policy coherence within the context of RBC - Labour rights related human rights due diligence as it related to company operations in particular related to the fundamental principles an rights at work - the role of employers and workers’ organizations for the promotion of sustainable, responsible and inclusive business practices;
