SELF-GUIDED COURSE ON ENTERPRISE FORMALIZATION

Kasonde Chituta

Although many people rely on the informal sector to make a living, it also poses serious challenges in terms of decent work, sustainable enterprise development, fair competition, tax revenues and social cohesion. The importance of addressing informality is widely recognized and included in several frameworks, such as the Sustainable Development Goals and the ILO Recommendation on Transition from the Informal to the Formal Economy, No 204 (2015). In this context, there is now considerable demand for information on what enterprise formalization entails, on the ILO approach and on evidence-based knowledge on promising policies, programmes and practical case studies from across the world. OBJECTIVES The purpose of this online course is therefore to fill this knowledge gap, informing and capacitating new ILO officials and project staff, as well as constituents and other interested persons on concepts and approaches to formalize enterprises and the workers they employ. CONTENT Mod 1 Informality in small enterprises Mod 2 Simplifying business registration, licensing and compliance Mod 3 Incentives to formalize Mod 4 Enhancing business productivity Mod 5 Enforcement and compliance Mod 6 Integrated approaches
