Just Transition, Green and Blue Economy Capacity Building Programme for ILO Constituents in the Africa Region

Jennifer Naanzem Yelwa

A just transition to environmentally sustainable economies and societies means greening the economy in a way that is also equitable and inclusive for all concerned, creating opportunities for decent work and leaving no one behind. Shaping a just transition requires a good understanding of impacts and options for taking action. It needs decisive policy-making at national and international level in which social actors play an important role. In this context, the International Labour Organisation (ILO), in cooperation with the International Training Centre (ITCILO), has offered a training programme on Just Transition, Green Economy and Blue Economy for government, workers’ and employers’ representatives from the Africa region. OBJECTIVES Participants gained a better understanding on how to reflect aspects around labour market impacts and social justice in the process of shaping a comprehensive set of policies to successfully implement climate change commitments. After the training, participants are better equipped for effective negotiations to make the voice of social actors heard at national and international level. CONTENT The Just Transition, Green and Blue Economy Capacity Building Programme was fully online. It took place over two weeks from 13 to 24 March 2023. Self-guided learning and live webinars will alternate. NUMBER OF HOURS: 30
