This course will explore the ILO Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work and their linkages to other human rights to provide a basis on how to incorporate them in the Common Country Analysis – a tool established to guide the action plan of the UN country team at the national level. OBJECTIVES • Incorporate Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work as part of the ILO and UN core mandate in the UNCT action at the national level; • Better understand the ILO mechanisms related to the promotion and protection of human rights in the world of work; • Better understand the role of social dialogue and freedom of association as enabler rights; • Promote a sound application of the ILO Fundamental Conventions at national and regional level; • Enhance cooperation and networking between UN staff, resident coordinators and other relevant stakeholders. CONTENT • Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work and linkages between labour rights and human rights; • Understanding International Labour Standards; • Common Country Analysis cycle; • Elimination of forced labour; • Elimination of child labour and its worst forms; • Elimination of discrimination in employment and occupation; • Freedom of Association; • The right to a safe and healthy working environment.
