Online International training on evidence-based policy making for decent work

This course is timely given the need for better informed and effective evidence-based policies relating to decent work issues, particularly in light of the current crises (post-pandemic issues, conflicts and recession risk) creating an unprecedented impact on workers and enterprises around the world. OBJECTIVES The online course aimed to build capacities of ILO’s tripartite constituents using case studies, research papers, guidelines, and other data and information sources for evidence-based policy making for decent work through the online learning platform. CONTENT The course has been broken down into three phases: 1. Pre-course learning: flexible (asynchronous) self-guided online learning on e-Campus ; 2. ‘Real-time’ learning: Live interactive sessions and engaging video presentations by highly experienced trainers, blended with individual and collaborative group exercises, and online technical forums on e-Campus; 3. End of course assignment: Individual assignment applying to national contexts (policy briefs). Participants who successfully complete all assessments and the final assignment received a certificate. The course was structured around 6 content modules with interactive activities and assignments. Day 1 Module 1: Welcome session and Introduction to the ILO and Decent work agenda Day 2 Module 2: Introduction to Evidence-Based Policy Making Day 3 Module 3: Searching for evidence Day 4 Module 4: Appraising evidence Day 5 Module 5: Synthetizing evidence Day 6 Module 6: Applying and communicating evidence Day 7: Elevator pitch / General survey on Care Personnel Day 8: Discussion on policy topics, wrap up and learning milestones ACHIEVEMENT At the end of the course, the participants have : · built skills and knowledge for evidence-based policy making, advocacy and services provisions for decent work; · explored the policy making, advocacy and service development processes, while specifically focusing on how to undertake and draft research for influencing policy, informing advocacy activities and services development; · explored how to promote a culture of evidence-based policy making, advocacy and service provisions; how to prioritize and build a robust evidence base for policy reconciling different perspectives, findings, and, conflicting evidence; · drafted policy brief proposals for influencing policy, informing advocacy activities and services development.
