International labour standards and reporting obligations (The Pacific Islands)

By examining the procedures and content of the international labour stands (ILS) system, this course aimed at assisting countries from the South Pacific in complying with standards-related obligations. OBJECTIVES To strengthen national capacity to follow LS procedures, including the discharge of standards-related reporting obligations under articles 19 and 22 of the ILO Constitution, and to apply ILS. CONTENT • ILS procedures: ILO background; standard setting; submission of ILS to the competent authorities; ratification, entry into force and denunciation; reporting procedures (articles 22 and 19 of the ILO Constitution); Committee of Experts on the Application of Conventions and Recommendations; Conference Committee on the Application of Standards; representations under article 24 of the ILO Constitution; complaints under article 26 of the ILO Constitution; complaints to the Committee on Freedom of Association; • ILS content: fundamental principles and rights at work (freedom of association and collective bargaining, forced labour, child labour, equality of opportunity and treatment in employment and occupation); tripartite consultation; occupational safety and health; violence and harassment in the world of work • NORMLEX database, ITCILO website on Managing ILS Reporting and other ILS resources and tools on the Net NUMBER OF HOURS : 40
