Fundamentals, concepts, principles of Environmental, Social, and Climate considerations in country strategies and projects

The "Strengthening Borrower’s Capacity on Environmental, Social, and Climate Best Practices 2" (SUSTAIN2) is an initiative of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). The goal of Sustain 2 is to enhance the Social, Environmental and Climate Assessment Procedures (SECAP) capacities of national ministries, civil society organizations, consultants, and private actors engaged in rural development across multiple regions, including LAC (Latin America and the Caribbean) and NEN (Near East, North Africa, Europe, and Central Asia).

This online training programme is part of SUSTAIN 2 and it is implemented by the International Training Centre of the International Labour Organisation (ITCILO).  It provides a practical approach to integrate effectively the updated SECAP in IFAD-supported projects. In a collaborative and instructive online space, it builds the capacity of the participants from risk screening approach at planning and design stages of the project, to their implementation and monitoring, integrating ESC standards into the IFAD funded projects.

OBJECTIVES

Develop a comprehensive understanding of IFAD’s Environmental, Social, and Climate Standards and the SECAP framework.

Strengthen the technical capacity to apply SECAP process across all stages of the project cycle—screening, assessment, implementation, and monitoring.

Enable participants to integrate gender equality, youth empowerment, and social inclusion into agricultural and rural development projects.

Adhere to a set of principles and values on which SECAP procedures and processes, are based.
