Youth and Climate Academy: Engaging in climate action for a just transition

OBJECTIVES
Enabling youth activists, graduate students, and young professionals to successfully shape a just and sustainable future by providing a profound understanding of the underlying causes and contributing factors to climate change and the resulting needs and impacts on the economy and the world of work. Developing young people’s competencies, analytical skills, and knowledge that will allow them to play their role in supporting a rapid shift towards environmentally and socially sustainable economies. Enabling participants to make full use of career opportunities the just transition can offer.
CONTENT
The Academy took place online, over two weeks with a total of 30 hours of live online sessions. These included online seminars, group work, skills sessions and peer-learning sessions.
ACHIEVEMENT
The Youth and Climate Academy allowed participants to understand the main transversal themes related to the global context of climate change and the critical concepts associated with a just transition towards environmentally sustainable economies and societies for all. Furthermore, it allowed young people from different backgrounds who are interested and engaged in discussions around the climate change agenda to gain profound knowledge about the social dimension of the climate change agenda the decent work considerations linked to it.
