Guided by the Global Workers’ Symposium on New Approaches to Workers’ Education for Trade Union Revitalization, the Global Workers’ Academy on Workers’ Education responded to the trade union needs to increase the quality of delivery of their training activities. The Academy contributed to the aspiration and commitment of the workers' education to embrace inclusivity, digital access, and lifelong learning, to act as a catalyst for union effectiveness, to adapt to emerging labour challenges, collaborate with the academia, promote solidarity, and explore flexible, innovative delivery methods for sustainable impact.
The Academy consisted of 4 complementary learning modules delivered in online modality combining synchronous and asynchronous learning. Each module consisted of one thematic live webinar complemented by tutor-led assignments on the e-campus, the ITCILO online platform. Participants’ assignments consisted of watching and analysing the videos, exploring InfoStories and self-guided e-learning modules, actively applying the methods in the Online Facilitation Toolkit, developing webinar plans, designing online training events and contributing to peer-to-peer exchange of good practices in Forum discussions.
OBJECTIVES
Upon successful completion of the Academy, the participants have acquired the competences to:
Develop inclusive training for trade union revitalization
Design and implement innovative learning experiences
Adapt training content to various learner profiles and needs
Integrate technology and digital tools in training
Use e-learning platforms and tools effectively
Apply newly acquired knowledge on emerging topics in the trade union movement and analyse the implications of these topics for trade unions and workers
Develop facilitation and communication skills necessary for engaging diverse groups of learners
CONTENT
The course covered the following topics:

M2: Design and Implementation of Innovative Learning
M3: Online Facilitation Tools and Techniques
M4: New Topics in Trade Unionism
The Academy accomplished 6 interrelated and mutually reinforcing outputs:
Output 1. ACTRAV-led Global Network of Trade Union Training Facilitators is established
Output 2. Multiculturalism and inclusiveness at the heart of learning design
Output 3. Increased facilitators’ confidence in working on new topics and with new approaches
Output 4. Increased skill to create dynamic, engaging, and impactful training programs using the toolkit with new methods
Output 5. New training modules and facilitation guidelines
Output 6. Facilitators are prepared to apply learning innovation
The combination of the above outputs will contribute to higher quality of delivery of training activities and ultimately the revitalization of trade unions in terms of more effective institutional and organizational processes, transformative leadership and meaningful influence on economic and social policies in a sustainable development perspective.
