An effective conciliation/mediation system enhances social peace while lightening the burden of work for labour tribunals. Building the capacity and developing the skills of conciliators/ mediator is therefore vital for creating a strong and sound system of labour relations. OBJECTIVES • To Strengthen Albania’s dispute resolution system; • To increase the use of conciliation/mediation for amicable settlement of labour disputes and foster the creation of social peace; • To contribute to an increased recognition of the role and functions of conciliators and mediators. • To assess the competences and skills of conciliators / mediators of labour disputes; • To provide techniques and guidance on how to improve the skills of conciliators / mediators; • To promote the application of key ILO principles and values in this context CONTENT • The conflict dynamic • Approaches to conflict management • Negotiation skills: Problem, process and people management skills for Labour Disputes Conciliation/ Mediation processes ACHIEVEMENT After this course, participants are able: • To describe and identify the key elements and principles of the conciliation / mediation process; • To identify and comprehend the development of conflict, disputes as well as the different approaches to conflict management and how to apply them; • To illustrate and apply the theory of negotiation, implement and expand the array of negotiation skills while polishing the existing ones; • To outline, explain and put into practice the key skills a conciliator / mediator needs in order to manage and master the process of conciliation / mediation; • To distinguish and examine the different phases of the process of conciliation / mediation and their specificities; • To understand and put into practice the effective qualities, skills and techniques to be able to succeed in the conciliation/mediation process; • To analyse the personal role, function and skills as a conciliator / mediator and assess how to improve them. • To identify, discuss, select and apply best practices related to conciliation / mediation.
