The ACTRAV Regional Workers’ Academy for Europe and Central Asia offered a blended learning programme aimed at equipping trade unionists with the knowledge and skills necessary to advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and uphold workers' rights. Participants engaged in both online and face-to-face sessions, delving into topics such as integrating SDGs into union agendas, advocating for workers' rights in national and international contexts, and preparing for key summits like the Summit of the Future and the World Social Summit. Through interactive sessions and practical assignments, participants emerged with enhanced capabilities to drive sustainable development agendas within their unions and communities.
OBJECTIVES
Comprehend Sustainable Development:
Understand the narrative and value of sustainable development.
Describe Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and their interconnectedness with real-life national examples.
Integrate and Promote SDGs in Trade Unions:
Incorporate SDGs into the trade union agenda, with a focus on promoting decent work, especially Goal 8.
Advocate for trade union involvement in national development plans and UNSDCFs.
3. Advocate for Trade Union Priorities:
Understand and advocate for trade union priority targets under Goals 1, 2, and 16, linking them to poverty reduction, social protection, and rights monitoring.
Promote a just transition and develop trade union strategies for sustainable agriculture and rural economy.
Enhance Advocacy and Collaboration:
Engage with government and UN bodies to influence national and international development frameworks.
Prepare informed trade union position papers for advocacy with government and international institutions.
Address Key Challenges:
Promote gender equality and empowerment of women in labour markets and trade unions.
Develop strategies to address climate change, social inequality, and technological advancements.
Understand Resource Mobilization and Advocate for Policies:
Strategize ways to mobilize resources and advocate for transformative policies at national and global levels.
ACHIEVEMENT
This certificate is awarded to the participant for successfully completing the ACTRAV Regional Workers' Academy for Europe and Central Asia. The Academy aimed to enhance trade union actions for sustainable development, focusing on integrating the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into union agendas and advocating for workers' rights. The training included a series of global and regional live webinars covering topics such as global progress in sustainable development, outcomes of 2024 Regional Forum on Sustainable Development in Europe and Central Asia, decent work, climate change and just transition, and protection of trade union rights and fundamental freedoms, as well as a face-to-face phase in Chisinau, Moldova. To achieve certification, participants demonstrated proficiency through active participation reflecting their commitment and competence in the subject matter, engagement in discussions, and completion of a final assignment, totalling an estimated 60 hours of learning.
