Investment facilitation, decent work and sustainable development

This course provides assistance and guidance to IPAs (investment promotion agencies) and other actors at the regional and country level to deepen and enhance the positive impact of FDI, through concepts such as Quality or Sustainable FDI, and engaging with investors on responsible business conduct. OBJECTIVES Attendees learn how IPAs are improving their institutional capacity to attract investments that foster sustainable development in a wide range of areas, including: • investment promotion and facilitation strategies and tools to increase investment in SDG-related projects • investment policies and practices that maximize decent work and inclusive economic growth (including responsible business conduct) • the integration of SDG-related considerations in project development and appraisal, to maximize the sustainable development contribution of inward FDI flows • cooperation and interaction at the global, regional and sub-regional levels between IPAs and between international and regional organizations • awareness-raising and knowledge sharing on the new EU supply chain regulations impacting investment flows in the Mediterranean region CONTENT Attendees will be equipped to advise their IPAs on specific ways to attract investment which will contribute more effectively to the SDGs, following topics as: • Wider policy developments of relevance for IPAs, investment facilitation, and sustainable development, including the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, WTO Investment Facilitation for Development Agreement, shifting frameworks concerning responsible business conduct and sustainable supply chains (including human rights due diligence and implications for IPAs) • Thematic issues related to FDI such as green FDI, digital FDI, blue economy and FDI, FDI in renewable energy, FDI and employment, and determining which types of FDI lead to decent employment generation, as well as engaging with FDI for more and better jobs • Institutional strengthening of IPAs to fulfil their mandate, including Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for decent work to measure the impact of FDI on decent work, technology and digitalization at the IPAs, and regional networking
