This course has been developed within the framework of the ILO Vision Zero Fund (VZF) project on Improving occupational safety and health in the coffee value chain, with the financial support of the European Commission, and the technical contribution of the International Training Centre of the ILO in Turin.

The course is based on the ILO guide Chemical risk management in the agriculture sector. This is a course with 4 self-guided modules with an expected duration of 6 hours in total.
OBJECTIVES
The overall objective of this course is to facilitate the acquisition of knowledge on the fundamental aspects of managing the risk to workers' health from exposure to chemicals in agriculture. Specifically, participant has the ability to:
• Describe the types of chemicals in the agricultural sector, their classification and the risks to workers' health.
• Give an overview of the purposes, classification and communication modalities of the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS).
• Explain the main chemical exposure activities in the agricultural sector, as well as the guidelines for managing this risk to prevent harm to workers' health.
• Outline the guidelines and safe work procedures in the storage and disposal of chemicals in the agricultural sector, as well as the procedures to follow during an emergency.
CONTENT
The course consists of the following 4 modules:
• Module 1 - General aspects of chemical products.
• Module 2 - Communication of hazards from the globally harmonized system.
• Module 3 - Management of chemical risks.
• Module 4 - Storage, disposal of pesticides and procedures for an emergency.
