Strengthening employment injury system in Ethiopia

5 - 8 October 2020 This ILO online workshop analysed the current regulations and the practices of the Employment Injury System in Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and disseminated international selected experiences and good practices among decision-makers. OBJECTIVES The general objective of the workshop was to strengthen the capacity of Ethiopia for the improvement of Employment Injury system for the compensation, care and rehabilitation of injured and sick workers and the contribution to the prevention of occupational accidents and diseases. At the end of the workshop, participants were be able to: • Describe the current situation of EI benefit situation in Ethiopia. • Describe the role and functions of EII schemes according to the international labour standards and other related instruments. • Describe the fundamentals on occupational safety and health and health-related issues by the EII schemes. • Describe the organizational and financing model of the EII scheme. • Discuss the suitable approach for Ethiopia for the establishment of a list of occupational diseases as well as relevant assessment tools. • Establish conclusions and recommendations on the feasibility of applying an EII scheme at the national and provincial contexts.
