Academy on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work
The Academy is a global event bringing together representatives of governments, workers’ and employers’ organizations, civil society stakeholders, UN agencies and other experts committed to ensuring the promotion and realization of fundamental principles and rights at work in legislation, policies and programmes in the world of work. It will provide a virtual space to learn and discuss global challenges with high-level international experts, interact and network with fellow participants and share experience and knowledge with people from all over the world.
As part of the Academy, the UN RCO and agencies had the possibility to choose a more focused and shorter track of consisting of four (4) weekly two-hour interactive sessions. This “special UN track” gathered UN colleagues and experts to discuss in practical terms the application of labour fundamental rights in UN cooperation frameworks and national policies and programmes.
OBJECTIVES
- Provide an overview of the four categories of rights at work: right to equality and non-discrimination in employment and occupation, right to freedom from child labour, right to freedom from forced labour and right to freedom of association and collective bargaining
- Consider the historical significance of the Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work of 1998, as well as the inter related nature of the four categories of fundamental principles and rights at work and the central role of the Decent Work Agenda in ensuring inclusive and sustainable development.
- Define the means and measures for achieving a better integration of fundamental principles and rights at work in the Cooperation Framework Cycle of UNCTs.
CONTENT
The academy shed light on conventional as well as newly emerging practices which support the realization of FPRW at a time of profound political, economic and social transformation.
